Meet Our Lovely Horses

Hope Remanes stables several horses for our programs. They are the most important part of our organization. Our equine friends live full time at our partnered ranch, Pleasant Valley Rescue Ranch.
Horses are listed in alphabetical order.

Doc
Doc is a quarterhorse that was rescued with two other horses at Pleasant Valley Rescue Ranch (PVRR). Doc has a big personality and is always looking for the people and the party. It has been said that Doc had barrel-raced in the past, which aligns with his desire to gallop in the pasture.

Dreamer
Dreamer is the largest horse at PVRR, but he has an easy-going demeanor. His white flecked coat is soft and his gentle eyes are inviting. Dreamer was rescued with Doc and Lucy when his owner passed away. Dreamer has a dedicated sponsor that maintains his good looks and keeps him moving with specialized training. If you want to meet a gentle giant, Dreamer is your horse.

Hannah
Miss Hannah is a miniature horse that travels with Sven to make community visits. Hannah is marked with white and brown patches that matches Lucy, a regular sized horse at Pleasant Valley Rescue Ranch (PVRR). (Visitors sometimes mistake Hannah for Lucy's baby.) A loyal volunteer at PVRR observed that Hannah actually “protects” and follows Lucy. Hannah's motherly instincts match her history. Hannah was rescued after being used as a broodmare and was continuously impregnated, which was physically demanding on her little body and also quite emotionally demanding. Although Hannah is small in stature, she has a strong and sometimes sassy personality.

Lucy
Lucy was rescued with Doc and Dreamer. Her beautiful brown and white patches stand out to visitors at PVRR and she insists on always looking impeccable. She has a dedicated sponsor who faithfully grooms and trains her to show off her mustang like markings. Lucy is being trained in dressage and loves having a job to do. Lucy has a preference for children over adults. She also prefers smaller horses for company, as she is often grazing with Miss Hannah, our miniature horse.

Moose
Moose was rescued by one of the Hope Remanes' family members in 2019. Before coming to stay with us, Moose was rescued by Rory Ridge Rescue Ranch on two separate occasions. After his first rescue, Moose's new owner sold him against the safety and care agreement upon adoption. So, Rory Ridge located Moose in Texas and swiftly recovered him again. Moose is a gentle giant with a steady demeanor. He is young and is learning to ride with his owner who provides a lot of patient hours in partnership on their journey together. Moose is mistaken as an albino but he actually is a cremello, which means his coat is white, he has blue eyes, and a soft pink muzzle.

Napolean
Napoleon is the alpha of the herd and has a strong, commanding presence. Well, that's the case until you rub his ears, which engages his affectionate side. Performing for the circus and then becoming a lesson horse for children, Napoleon has had his fill of the working life. Enjoying his retirement at PVRR, Napoleon leads his herd in the pasture and welcomes positive attention. He is cloaked in a white coat with sharp, elegant eyes. His appearance is so majestic that he is often labeled the “king” at the ranch.

Precious
Precious is the oldest of the Hope Remanes herd and is cared for personally by one of the members of PVRR's board of directors. She is the matriarch of the herd and is treated with the upmost respect as the older lady. One of her favorite spots is under the hay pavilion where she feeds in the summer shade. Precious also enjoys hanging out in the stalls during the day. She is protective over our miniature horses and will step in to maintain order if the herd gets out of line. Precious is a quiet, loving soul, and she loves gentle attention.

Sunday
Sunday is the smallest of our regular-sized horses, which is normal for Morgan breeds. Sunday was rescued by PVRR in a time pressured situation, where the ranch had to arrive to pick up Sunday before the slaughter truck arrived. Quickly, the ranch set up the trailer and made an emotional drive to save this wonderful horse. Sunday is marked with a scar over 10" in diameter on her neck from being impaled. She was so frightened of people that it took her over a year to build enough trust to accept physical attention. Sunday is anxious, but a sweet girl. Despite her physical abuse, Sunday thrives at the ranch by being treated just like the other horses.

Sven
Sven is a miniature horse that was rescued from neglect. Confined to small spaces and not having his hooves trimmed, Sven was clearly not cared for properly. That neglect caused his hooves to overgrow and curl, causing immobility, great pain, and increased susceptibility to disease. Sven was rescued by a loving mother and daughter who invested in his physical and emotional healing, resulting in his participation in 4H. Sven is a loving boy, despite his neglect, and he is always excited to partner with Miss Hannah and visit communities to spread hope to those who cannot visit the ranch.
